Consistant Work

"Therefore, prepare your minds for action;  be self-controlled; set your hope fully on the grace to be given you when Jesus christ is revealed.  As obedient children, do not conform to the evil desires you had when you lived in ignorance.  But just as he who called you is holy, so be holy in all you do; for it is written: 'Be holy, because I am holy.'"
-  1 Peter 1:13-16

Peter was encouraging the readers to be ready when Christ came back.  He encouraged people to be prepared, be self-controlled and full of grace.  They had no idea when Christ was coming back but Peter still wanted everyone to be prepared. 

Are things different today?  No, just because we are in a different time and we don't know when Jesus is coming back does not mean we should not be prepared.  Just as Peter said prepare your minds for action, be obedient children.  Am I preparing my mind?  Am I being obedient to what God has called me to? Am I living a life that is in preparation for Christ's coming?  I wish the answer to all these questions was yes, but I have to say it is not.  How do I change?  How do I ensure my life reflects that of Christ and his holiness? 

Be in the Word
Pray
Remind myself what is important
Concentrate on God's plan
Trust in God
Believe what God says is true
Think of myself less
Put others first

To refocus my thoughts and life on God and what really matters. His glory is where my thoughts should be. 

Thought for the Day:  Am I living as if Jesus is coming back?

Entertaining a Fool

"Do not answer a fool according to his folly, or you will be like him yourself." Proverbs 26:4 This may sound like a common sense type of statement.  But all to often this can be true of how we portray ourselves.  To many times we want to be right and we know what another is saying is not "the right way to look at it" or its not a correct view point so we argue our point.  We want to make sure that he is corrected. God's Timing

"With the Lord a day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like a day.  The Lord is not slow in keeping his promise, as some understand slowness.  He is patient with you, not wanting anyone to perish, but everyone to come to repentance."  2 Peter 3:8-9 Although this verse is speaking of God's promise to come back and he is not slow to answer that promise, I think it has application in other parts of our lives also.  God's timing is not our timing.  When we feel that God has made a promise to us and he is not answering, we could just be looking to our own timing. We are a society that wants things instantly and looks for instant gratification.  God doesn't work this way because he sees things differently.  As I think of this passage, I imagine a young child asking their parent for something.  "mommy, mommy, mommy" or "daddy, daddy, daddy."  They want the attention right that moment.  Its like we do the same thing to God....

Q&T: Questions Without Answers only Truth

We all come to a point in our lives when we question God.  Questions come in many forms depending on the situation we find ourselves in.  I know there have been many moments in my life when I questioned God's plan, especially when it seemed to make no sense.  At this moment in my life, I am in a place of transition, and I asked: What are some of the major questions we ask God, and, more importantly, what are the answers to these questions? I found there are three major questions we ask. Question 1:  When?  When will it happen? When will my prayer be answered? When will I see a change? When will I know that God has changed things? When do I need to do what's asked of me?  There are a lot of when questions.  This question is about timing.
